With just 18 days left for the Delhi Commonwealth Games, the venues are still struggling for their completion and this is possibly one of the biggest worries for the Games’ officials. Of late, media was given the permission to enter the stadia which are ready to show that everything is in place; however there was a question which bothered the media and that was denial of entry to the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range in Tughlaqabad. On Tuesday, the Commonwealth Games Organizing Committee planned a free tour for the media, however in that visit, this shooting range was excluded. Recently this venue had come under the scanner for some discrepancies at work and after that a great amount of work force was deployed in the stadium. According to the media reports, the work is happening at worried pace, however the officials said that the work will be completed by the set deadline.

According to the official sources, right now the focus is now on completing the final range which will be the arena for the final event of the 10, 25 and 50 metre events. The reports reveal that the rest of the range is complete and only finishing touches are to be made which will be over and done with before the set deadline. The venue commander, Manmeet Singh Goindi said, “We have people working very hard to get things in place and everything has to be ready by September 17.” Earlier the administrators were under the fire as the sheds were not up to the mark and then the work on them started again.

Talking about the importance if sheds at the shooting ranges, Manmeet Singh said, “The rule says that the shed should cover the shooter fairly to protect him from sun. There are events in the sport where one has to keep moving to aim at the target and the shed can only be there up to a specific distance.” Speaking about this shooting range which is located 21 km from the Games Village, Venue Manager, Manmeet Singh said, “This stadium is even better than the Beijing one as we have 80 shooting ranges. They had just 60.” According to the media reports, the two famous shooters looked satisfied with the venue and said that this Karni Singh Range will be a great host during the Delhi Commonwealth Games. The authorities looked confident about completing the work on time when the shooters will arrive to breathe life into the venue.
