She fondly recollects the day when her mother told her that they could be best friends. Project Drishti is a distinguished initiative of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) and National Association of the Blind (NAB) led by Nita Ambani. It has successfully completed the transfer of around 5,000 corneal grants free of cost for the underprivileged and is recognized as the largest corneal grafting drive in India. It recently published India‘s first registered Braille newspaper in Hindi that can grant access to knowledge, information and current affairs to around 20,000 visually challenged kids. It was circulated free of cost in 325 institutions that caters to the visually impaired section of the society. Real Heroes is another commendable initiative supported by Reliance Foundation that acknowledges and appreciates the indomitable spirit of those ordinary citizens who have devoted their lives to the well-being of the society.

SRK, who has been named a Chubb Fellow, was accompanied by Nita Ambani and they were understood to have arrived in a private plane at the New York`s White Plain airport. Nita Ambani`s daughter is a student at Yale University. Sources told the press, while everybody else were cleared by the immigration immediately; SRK was stopped for over two hours before being cleared by the immigration officials.

SRK’s plane landed in New York at 12:30pm but he didn’t make it to Yale till 6pm. The extra grilling session also made him reach two hours late for his scheduled speech at the esteemed University.

When he finally did address the students at Yale, which is located around three hours drive from New York, SRK said: “We were detained at the airport as always. For one and a half hours. It was nice. It always happens when I come to America. Whenever I start feeling too arrogant about myself I take a trip to America.” His bid for humour in this situation impressed his audience and held them captive all through the speech.

“Shah Rukh was very upset with this incident happening with him again. In order for the processed to be sped up, the Yale University officials had to contact the Department of Homeland Security and the Immigration and Customs Department at Washington, when they were made aware of this detention,” sources said. However, this is not the first time Shah Rukh Khan has been stopped at an American airport. In 2009 also, he was stopped at the Newark airport and was released after a two hour grilling.

Shailaja Gupta, who is the USA head of SRK’s production house Red Chillies Entertainment, said that he was expecting to be stopped this time as well and that he answered all questions with grace and patience. She also said that the airport officials recognised him but continued with the questioning.

Back home, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reacted on Twitter, saying: “Honestly what’s the big deal?? This airport detention thing happens all the time & to all sorts of people. Get over it.”

Invitees enjoyed champagne and the finest cuisine at the rooftop. Later, the gathering shifted to the grand ballroom in the lower level, where the Ambanis had put together an awards function of their own- dedicated to one man alone. Pritam opened the show, premiering a song dedicated to Sachin from the film Ferrari Ki Sawari. Nita then welcomed the guests and spoke of how proud Sachin made all Indians feel, before handing over the microphone to Priyanka Chopra, who played emcee for the evening honouring the legend.

PC then took to the audience, speaking to various guests and Abhishek Bachchan quipped about how all his fans, who wore the same clothes and sat glued to the TV when Sachin played, had a role to play in scoring his 100th hundred.

Television journalist Rajat Sharma won a personally autographed bat by Sachin in a surprise game of passing the parcel. Finally, it was Salman Khan’s time to take to the stage. The actor turned on his rakish charm to the max, leaving the audience in splits with his unrehearsed speech and jokes.

Though the kitchen here had nothing in common with the one in the Ambani household, she made herself at home, sharing cooking tips with the girls and stirring the broth.

Your diarist can reveal that the party, held in Pune on Sunday night, lived up to its expectations and more. To start with, the sheer number of sedans and SUVs lined up at the five-star caused a traffic jam so severe several guests had to turn back without sampling the lavish banquet.

There was also enough bling to blind you – be it on the guests or on the stage, which was reminiscent of the award shows the family has been associated with.

And not surprisingly, the highlight of the evening was a 45-minute performance by Shiamak Davar’s troupe and a solo session by Mika. Incidentally, reliable sources say that it is designer Shaina NC who had played matchmaker between the two families.

The wedding is slated for December, and if the engagement gala is anything to go by, it is going to be the biggest talking point this winter.

3) ‘Pyaar Ki Pungi’ from ‘Agent Vinod’ is making waves and not just across the charts. The song has landed the music director of the film in trouble after an Iranian underground music band has sent a legal notice to the makers of ‘Agent Vinod’ for copying one of their songs.

The music of the song is very similar to ‘Soosan khanoom’ by Iranian band called Barobax. According to the band, the beats and music of the ‘Agent Vinod’ song is very similar to the Irani song.

The legal notice served states that the band came across the promotions of the movie ‘Agent Vinod’ on satellite television in Iran and on listening to the song, they realised that the initial portion of the song is lifted without any change from the title song of their album. They have also demanded that the makers of ‘Agent Vinod’ refrain from using the song in the film and they will initiate proceedings to seek a restraining order if they fail to do so
